Ready for Fall?  It doesn’t seem possible that it’s October, and for over a year and half we’ve been dealing with the unpredictability of Covid, the push and pull of laying off and (desperately!) hiring for all positions, skyrocketing prices on many products and PTSD any time public officials speak.  Oh – and delaying or canceling events, dinners, trips and plans.  All those cancellations and changes add up to your business not knowing down from up or how to plan for what’s around the corner.  You’re probably doing what I’m doing – getting up every day, going to work and just working on the next one or two things.  My hope is that all the events you have booked will go off without a hitch, let’s keep our fingers crossed!

Speaking of events  – at this writing it’s almost time for Golftoberfest!  We’ll have pictures in the next magazine issue, but I sure hope you’re there with us.  We’re planning the Restaurateur’s Gala and we need your nominations!  Who helped you survive this past wild year?  Who was invaluable when you needed to completely change your operation?  Who was by your side when you needed to commiserate?  What other operator helped you cope, learn or inspired you?  Please nominate them!  Let’s roar into 2022 with a huge “we made it” celebration!  You can find nomination forms at www.kyra.org and they’ll be emailed out as well.  January 24, 2022 is the date to hold!  The Sporting Clays Tournament was such a hit we’re making it an annual event, and we’re planning to have it again at Jefferson Gun Club on June 13, 2022.

We’re saying so long and thank you to a longtime staff member, Lisa McLaughlin.  She will still be around the industry, but we’ll miss her putting together this publication, training so many in ServSafe and always making sure she takes plenty of pictures at our events.  We will miss her, and we’re welcoming Marvin Stewart to our team.  You’ll meet him at an event or training soon, or hear his voice on the phone, so be sure to give him a warm welcome.

As we gear up for the 2022 legislative session, know that we are ready to read all the bills, advocate for all Kentucky restaurants and make sure our legislators know our industry is in recovery mode.  We need employees, we need financial help and we need stability in our supply chain.  Members, thank you for sticking with us.  If you’re not yet a member – please join at www.kyra.org or call or email me at 502-400-3736 or [email protected].
